Stephen Young, MD receives 2010 Ernst Jung Prize in Medicine

Dr. Stephen Young (Professor of Medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles and Ellison Medical Foundation Senior Scholar in Aging in 2007) was awarded the 2010 Ernst Jung Prize in Medicine for his pioneering research on the mechanisms of lipid metabolism, and the role of farnesylated prelamin A in progeria. Dr. Young and co-recipient Peter Carmeliet Md PhD of the University of Leuven Belgium were honored at a ceremony in Harmburg in May, 2010. The Ernst Jung Prize is awarded to recognize excellence in biomedical sciences and is accompanied by 300,000 Euro. The Ernst Jung Foundation, founded by Hamburg philanthropist Ernst Jung, has bestowed the prize annually since 1976. Past recipients of the award include Drs. Anthony Fauci, David Ho, Francis Chisari and 2001 EMF Senior Scholar Stuart Lipton.
